Goodbye 2013!

57373-Goodbye-2013

I know, this post probably should have been posted on the 31st of December, shame on me! Even though we are a good week into the new year, I still would like to look back together with you on 2013.

If I was to sum up 2013, it would probably with the word weird. It really has been a weird and emotional year, where I have felt every emotion from crying-my-eyes-out-sad to life-cant-get-any-better-happy. I have been unemployed for a couple of months (which definitely attributed to the crying-my-eyes-out-sad, found my dream job (happy-happy-joy-joy), somehow found the resources to travel to Stockholm, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Madrid, Zagreb, Malmo, Aarhus, Odense, Samsø and Hamburg, and made some new amazing friends!

Goals 2013

Last year I made some goals for 2013 and to be honest, I kinda forgot about them. Reading them again 1 year later made me realise both how short and long 1 year can be! Even though it felt like it was over in a blink, I can see now that I achieved a lot more than I felt I did.

  • Find the perfect and cheap (!) take-away place: I definitely have some favorite take-away places (such as: Quattro Fontane Due ApS), but I still haven’t found thát place. Something that is affordable and makes you really happy on a Friday night.
  • Be fluent in Danish: this definitely is my biggest achievement in 2013. I finalised all Danish education (level C1 from the European Framework) and I’m really happy I finally feel that I can participate in Danish society *how cheesy that might sound*.
  • Finnish half a marathon: at the beginning of the year I ran the half marathon CPC loop in the Hague and while I said afterwards I would NEVER do that again, I signed myself up again for another half marathon in March 2014.
  • Read all the Harry Potter books: while I did started with the books see proof, I unfortunately can’t say I have finished them. So I will take this goal with me to 2014, but nothing bad about that, since I really enjoyed the first 2 books!
  • Send mail by post: my parents where the main receiver for this, I’m not sure if I failed or succeeded in this goal. But I feel like, in general, I could have more correspondence with my friends (those perhaps who don’t read this blog).
  • Find my dream job: it still feels weird to write this down, but working for the company where I  already wanted to work when I was in high-school, feels amazing! Besides learning Danish, this is definitely a big success too!
  • Double the LP collection: I’m not sure if it doubled in size, but it sure doesn’t fits in the rack we’re having now anymore.
  • At least one trip outside of Europe and heaps of city trips (Stockholm – so I can bump into Kenza, London – Superdrug, Paris – Laduree): The trip outside of Europe didn’t happend, but I’m completely fine with that. 2013 was a financially draining year (being unemployed and all) and I know 2014 will have some bounty islands in prospect! But there was enough money and time for city trips incl. (!) Stockholm and Paris.
  • Get this blog to the next level: I still find it hard to update on a regular basis, but I did doubled my amount of readers. Failed or succeeded? I don’t know, as long as I think it’s fun to blog, I will.
  • Find Danish friends: being fluent in Danish, didn’t actually helped in finding the Danish friends. But I sure have more of them now, then at the beginning of 2013.

You know what?! 2013 was amazing, with ALL of its ups and downs!

With love,

-Janet

Holiday Beauty Buyings

IMG_0121

Hello world,

The last month the blog has been a bit of neglected, sorry for that. I am highly impressed by all the bloggers out there, who manage to find the time and primarily the energy to blog from vacay. Since my last blog I have been visiting Samsø (a cute little island in Denmark), home in the Hague (with day trips to a.o. Amsterdam and Rotterdam), Antwerp (Belgium) and Paris (France).

We have been home for a week now and I definitely have some troubles getting back into my daily routine and my blog routine. However, I have soooooo much to share with you guys (primarily pictures of food), so I’ll just start with all the beauty products I bought on my little trip!

IMG_0123

It took me about 10 years, but I have finally found my holy grail in skin care: Paula’s Choice (in combination with my Clarisonic). I love their cleanser with my whole heart: it gets rid of all the dirt that accumulates on your face during the day, without that squeaky clean feeling (I can’t even believe that for many years I actually thought the feeling of a dry, tight skin meant that my cleanser was doing its job). I got a refill of their toner and day cream (which comes with SPF 30, FTW) and decided to add the serum with it too. So far, these products with the Clarisonic really calmed down my skin. It never has been cray-cray bad, but irritating enough to be self-conscious about it: in thát period of the month, I’d guaranteed have a nice big friend on my cheek or chin, which would take about 2 weeks to heal, to start all over again. Luckily with these products that’s all past tense!

I also bought some refills of my make-up holy grails, since these are cheaper in euro and there was some nice promotions on top of it too.

Christian Eyebrow is my favorite eyebrow product, I’ve tried it all pencil, Anastacia, liquid but I’ll always go back to this product in Irid Brown. It stays on all day without melting (something I experienced with the Anastacia powders, not nice to walk with half an eyebrow for the rest of the day) and is really easy to apply. I use one pan for about 1.5/2 years and I really think that it frames your entire face.

Besides framing my face with eyebrow powder, I also strongly believe in a bit of blush to put some life on your face. I have been using Sensai by Kanebo’s blush for about five years and I have never found a better one. I tried it a couple of times, because Kanebo’s blush isn’t the cheapest, but I always regretted it the first day after trying it at home (goedkoop is duurkoop). I never seem to be able to swatch a blush in correct light and I also don’t really like to dirty brushes from the make-up artist on my cheeks. So after 5 years I’m still really happy with Sensai’s blush in color CH05, which is a pink/coral blush with the perfect amount of pigment. One brush is just about enough and it never looks like I wanted to enroll to the circus academy.

In beauty heaven (Sephora Champs Elysees) I also picked up Nars’ Nars’ Albatros blush. To be honest I haven’t really tried it as a highlighter yet, but it seems to have a nice warm golden pigment.

Make Up For Ever’s All Matt primer in combination with bareMinerals have been my favorite “foundation” since my last time in Paris (which was in 2007 and I bought my first tin of bareMinerals). I don’t really like too much coverage, especially not in the summer. I finally got the right summer shade (golden tan) even though it meant having those dirty brushes of the make up artist on my face.

I really try to downgrade with my mascara, because I don’t want to pay 25+ euro anymore for it, but I somehow always end up with Lancome, so that kind of failed. I got them luckily with 40% discounts, which obviously meant I had to buy 2 of them…

I also bought the L’Oréal Super Liner Perfect Slim, but unfortunately I haven’t tried it yet (I also think that eyeliner is too much in this weather). However, I read some pretty amazing review about it and to be honest the only thing I ask from an eyeliner is to be a stift and don’t dry out in a week. I’ll keep you posted if it is anything good.

These lonely rangers are the handcare soldiers. I got the handwash by Aesop in their cute little store at St. Honoré in Paris and every time I wash my hands I directly go back to our amazing weekend in the city of love. I also bought my all time favorite topcoats by Out the Door, this topcoat dries my nails in about 15 minutes so I can continue with my life again.

And this little fellow might be thé buy of my holiday (and I’m oh-so regretting not buying a bigger bottle or two), it is the Créaline by Bioderma. Many beautybloggers have been raging about it and since it is so easily available in France (every pharmacy carries it) I gave it a try and you know what? Those beautybloggers were right. I think this product is especially nice in these warm, humid days to “take the day of your face” (you know what I mean, you’ve been sweating and running around all day and just want to get rid of that sticky feeling) and it also easily takes of your mascara. But best thing is: after cleaning your face you could actually just go to bed: it doesn’t leaves a sticky residue and also don’t leaves your skin dry and tight behind. But normally I do wash my face a bit more with the Paula’s choice cleaners to finish with some moisturizer, but it’s nice to know that at least on one of those days you could just hop into bed.

Well that was about it for my beauty post, I’ll share a lot more with you the coming days. I missed ya!

With love,
-Janet

New in: Essie Lilacism & Essie Sand Tropez

IMG_9881

Nailpolish might be my one and only guilty pleasure. Even though my nails disagree (read: they are dry and damaged), but a bit of color pops up every outfit and they kinda help my 12-year old hands to look like they are actually attached to an adult.

I’ve always been an O.P.I. kind of girl, since as soon as the first spring sunbeam hits the city I love to pop some bright and happy (preferably neon) color on my nails. However, lately I actually find that pastel colors match better with a tanned skin and after reading Annemerel raving about Essie’s Lilacism I biked to the nearest department store. I never gave Essie too much attention (besides “Mademoiselle” which is my all time favorite pink/nude color) because their colors where so safe and humble. But I fell in love with the nude Sand Tropez and bought this together with Lilacism.

On my ring-finger you see Essie’s Apple Mint Candy. I love the purple color and it really compliments my tanned skin tone. Essie’s nail polish, in combination with Orly’s rubberized basecoat and my favorite topcoat by Out the Door, easily stay on my nails without any chips for about a week.

Sephora Haul

IMG_3324

Whattup blogosphere?! Last week was my last working day, I have been working for the same company for the last year and it was just time for some change! I don’t have another job (yet), so if you know anything awesome in the Copenhagen area, hit the comment box! My lovely co-workers gave me a gift voucher for Sephora and they couldn’t have picked out a better gift! Last weekend Sephora also had 25% discount on everything, so I went bananas and bought some things that have been on my wish list for ages!

IMG_3366

Eyeshadow is my guilty pleasure. I don’t know why since 9 out of 10 times, I actually think my eyes look better with nothing on it at all.. But eyeshadow, it has something magical, it is fun to swatch and even more fun to buy! I got the newest naked pallet from Urban Decay (to accompany my Naked 1 and 2 pallets). This Basics pallet contains 6 warm, neutral colors and are both matte and shimmer. I definitely think that this one will be a welcome addition to my travel make-up bag, since it is small and contains pretty much every color for a day or evening look!

Make Up For Ever might be one of my favorite brands. Both the Aqua Shadow and Aqua Brow have been on my wish list for ages, every time I’m so surprised about the quality of their Aqua products. I use my MUFE kohl pencil almost daily, so I’m sure the Aqua Shadow will be a hard worker too. I got enthusiastic about the Aqua Brow after reading about it on beautylab and misslipgloss. I have been using it for the last two days and I’m really surprised how easy it applies, the only downside is that their colour is not a complete match with my hair color. I’m using nr 20 (light brown), but I might add nr 30 (dark brown) to mix with.

Now I’m gonna enjoy the lovely weather!
