Happy (Belated) Birthday to Me

Hello blogosphere!

It has been a bit quiet here, but I have had a crazy couple of weeks! I had my final exam for my Danish education this week and last Thursday was my 26th birthday. It might be the first year that I thought “hmm, I’m getting old..” I had a great day though! My sister and brother from another mother came to visit me in Copenhagen and we spend the day in Tivoli (amusement park). We had the best weather and we literally took a nap in the afternoon sun. We finished our night with a 12 course dinner and some fantastic wine, I will post some of the food pictures later this week.

I love to celebrate my birthday, because I love presents 😎 These are all the wonderful gifts I received so far. My mom gave me the cutest birthday outfit from Zara and my dad gave me a Canon pancake lens (review is on its way) and some Mac brushes (haha, can you imagine this 60+ dad in a Mac store, totally lost in eyeshadow and blush). On days like this, I really miss hanging out with my parents. Obviously, I also had a (mini) period of being a rebel when I was younger. But these days I really enjoy being in their company, shopping with my mom or driving somewhere with my dad. So thanks lovely parents for being awesome!

My sister gifted me a new hairdryer, now there’s really no excuse to get some more volume in my hair. While I love make-up, I normally think my hair is just a burden. So for this summer, I’m really planning to (at least) try to blow dry my hair a bit more into shape!

The Nike short and Mac blush (from the in extra dimension collection) where little gifts to myself 😎

My sister and brother-from-another-mother also gave me this mug from Starbucks, so I will never forget where I came from 😉

Isn’t it a beauty? It is a blush and highlighter in one, with a consistency between liquid and powder. Normally I don’t really like glitter on my face and my every-day make-up is as matte as possible, but I definitely like this product on a tanned skin!

These were the brushes my dad picked out for me, my goal is to own all Mac brush (okay not all, but most) out there.

And last, but certainly not least, the boyfriend surprised me with some nice sneakers! These fly-knits are extremely comfortable, but so pretty that I actually don’t even want to use them to run in! They will match great with some summer skirts and dresses or even a boyfriend jeans.

Happy Birthday to my Sister

My sister is 4 years older than I am and has always been this cool rebel chick, where I was more the nerdy talk-to-myself kind of kid. Since she was always heaps cooler than I was (or haha, just because she was a bit older), we have never been really close sisters (like Mary-Kate and Ashley) but nonetheless she is one of my most precious friends. One of the oldest memory I have of us playing together, is when we watched Jurassic Park on TV. She pretended to be a dinosaur and I was Lex Murphy, we screamed and jumped over the couch in the living room and I had such an amazing time with her. I’m not really sure what I was planning to tell you with this, but here you go, another bunch of unusable information.

My sister and I have always have had a love/hate relationship. This is mostly because we disagree pretty much on everything: on the basis principles of life to the color of our nails. But at the same time, she is also the sister that would go over to the guys that bullied me in elementary school to teach them a lesson. The sister that would pick my side, when I argued with my parents. The sister who I could ugly-cry in front, when I broke up with my high-school sweetheart (everything is so intense when you’re 16).

I’ve made life really hard on her sometimes, I can’t deny that. I was this goodie two shoes, that pretty much would tadle tale on everything. I made everything into a competition, even when she didn’t knew it was a game to begin with. I don’t know how it must have been for her, with a sister like me.

But her she is, celebrating the big 30 (or shall we say the big forever 21). All I have left is love and wishes for her. I hope she finds her life-calling, I hope that she will make a difference in a kid’s life (I think she would be amazing as a teacher!), and I just wish her all sugar, spice and everything nice. Because she always has my back and I hope she knows I will always have hers.

When I opened this, even though I was home alone at that point, I couldn’t surpress a little scream and a little jump in the air!

They send me an amazing pair of nike’s, some make-up goodies and a spongebob popcorn machine!! Can’t wait to try everything out. My boyfriend and parents in-law also spoiled me too dead! Shall make some pictures of their presents and post them soon 😀

Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional…

My lovely co-workers decorated my desk today!

I’m seriously getting old now.. Today I turned 25!! 25 is a bit of an odd age: first of all, its way too close to the big 3-0, but also didn’t you guys thought you would be a lot more grown up by now? In addition, besides being older you don’t get any new rights with turning 25 (which obvious is lame), 16: beer, 18: vodka + car license, 21: grown up clubs, 25: quarter-life crisis?

But besides that there are also some pros coming with turning this old: making your own money (be ashamed if you are still living of your parents dollar dollar bills!), you pretty much decide on everything yourself (so no more moms telling you have to end your teenage phone call and go to bed), and when you are asked for your ID at a club it’s actually a compliment..

However, I wish it could be my birthday everyday, waking up with balloons all over the room and a Danish Snegl waiting for me!

Tillykke med fødselsdagen Margrethe!

While the Dutch get pretty wasted to celebrate the Queen’s birthday (the former queen to be precise) and have a lot of outdoor festivals, beer, and people – a little version of Distortion you might say. The Danes have a different way to honor their queen: a more traditional and sophisticated way..

While in the Netherlands we would have bought our 5th beer, this is what they do in Copenhagen around noon:

After changing of the guards, Queen Margrethe II and her closest family step out onto the balcony of the palace, to be greeted with loud cheers. After a while, they move back inside, while the traditional call from the crowd sings out – “Margrethe, Margrethe, kom nu frem, ellers går vi aldrig hjem” (“Margrethe, Margrethe, come on out, or we will never go home”). This usually makes the royal family appear two or three times more.

So somehow, they found another occasion to sing! I integrated pretty well on most parts of living here: I bike like a madman, order fisk in the club and got used to the short opening hours. HOWEVER, the fact that Danes try to have a singing part in all their traditions makes my eyebrows frown..

Find the 10 differences..
